New Day, New Me
I just celebrated my Christmas holidays with my family and now realizing 2022 is not far behind. This means we will be hearing or saying "New year, new me" and posting about "starting fresh" or "make way for the new".
I am guilty of this, I used to post a selfie on Instagram with a cheesy caption relating to a "new me" and in reality, I continued to be the same me as the year before.

January is time where we tell ourselves: " I will stop eating McDonalds, and "I am officially starting my diet". Also, " I am going to lose twenty five pounds in the first month of the new year" and "I am going to start working out three times a day". Are these sustainable? Are these realistic New Year resolutions?
I used to grab my journal and write down a list of things I would attempt to change about myself. I would look up "typical" new years resolutions and aim to start them January 1st. I would buy new cookbooks to start a diet or workout clothes to start working out again.
When we attempt to try something all of a sudden, it makes it harder to sustain long term. There's this pressure to be a completely new person after one day and often it's not a realistic goal. We can't just flip a switch and expect it to stay.
I like to think of my new years resolutions as a progress of a whole year, rather than within a few weeks in January. I take things one day at a time, to make my goals flow easier.
My plan to take it day by day
There's 365 days in the year and every day is a clean slate, a blank page and a perfect time to start fresh. At the end of my day: I reflect on the good and the bad of my day, how I can improve and what I love. For example, today I loved waking up early in the morning and having a coffee, but I didn't like the way I talked to my mom. I will attempt to continue the elements I love and strengthen my flaws for the next day.
At the beginning of my day: I remember the start of a new day and I keep in mind my reflection of the day before. I am excited for what's to come for my day ahead, but I don't jump to plans I have on another day. This helps to live in the moment, and live day by day.
I can only do so much in one day, I become proud of the accomplishments I make. I can fulfill my goals the next day.

My goals for the next year
- workout at least three times a week
- feel healthy
- get a new tattoo
- go on a road trip
- find a new place to see at least once a month
- hike more
- clean up the things I don't need
All in all, it's good to see the New Year as a clean slate but it helps to progressively want to see change in yourself and take those steps to attain your goals. December 31st is a great time to celebrate the progress you've made and the amazing goals you've completed, within 365 days.
I hope you enjoy your celebration of your accomplishments this year and of a new year. Hoping you are able to make a sustainable list of goals and have things to look forward to, while being able to take it step by step everyday.
Happy early New Year!!!
